These days most of us prefer to use a particular search engine to gather information that we require. Some of us like Google, some Yahoo; others may like Bing or AltaVista and so on.
However by default Internet Explorer 9 has Bing as the default search engine provider for end users who prefer to use address bar to search purpose. However if Bing is not your favourite search engine, you can always add other search engines or even create your own search engine in Internet Explorer 9.
Today we will learn how to add Google as a default Search Engine Provider in Internet Explorer 9. Here is a step by step tutorial.
Update: To add Google , visit Microsoft Search Providers here and click on Google & follow the guide from Step 4 onward.
Step 1 : Click on the Tools Icon on the top right corner and click on Manage Add-ons.
Step 2 :In Add-on Types click on “Search Providers”. To add more Search engines to IE 9 , click on “Find more search providers” link on left bottom corner of the pop up window.
Step 3 :In the list of search providers, find “Google Search Suggestions”. Under it click on “Add to Internet Explorer” button to add Google as a search engine.
Step 4 :On the pop window that says – “Do You want to add this search provider”, click on “Add”.
Step 5 : In the Manage Add-ons window, under the Search Providers tab, right Click on Google and click on “Set it as Default“.
This way you can easily add Google as your default search engine in Internet Explorer 9 .

The google search solutions option is not there for ie9!!!!!
See instructions below.
Microsoft does not show Google as a default search engine. I’m in Australia and it is sucks. Very dirty trick
Yes, indeed a very dirty trick! MS never learns from their evil ways!
Your steps only work if Google appears in the search choices. The IE gallery hangs when I try to search for Google.
Please browse through the page from the link as noted below, Link is from Microsoft, helps you to add google as your default search provider, which is categorised under Web Search(in the left side of the page)…it works for me….
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx#
The link that you provided, worked great for me. Thanks!
I tried times over again and Google or any other search engines did not appear on IEs addon Gallery. Is there any other way to add Google to the list of search engines in IE9?
If Google doesn’t appear, try going to
http://www.iegallery.com/en/addons/?feature=searchproviders
to add it
Microsoft are doing it again. Yes Google appears as an accelerator but no, it does not appear in the search provider list in manage add-ins when using IE 9 and Windows 7. I HATE Bing.
In the Netherlands, I encountered the same problem as Mark, Foxy and Jade.
My solution to circumvent the Microsoft stranglehold on users in Australia and the Netherlands and other Microsoft-colonized banana republics:
Make Microsoft believe you are in the USA (land of the free!):
START button –> Settings –> Control Panel –> Region and Language
Tab Formats: Set Format to “English – United States”"
Tab Location: Set Current Location to “United States”
For good measure, I also set my default IE9 start page to http://www.msn.com (i.e. the US site).
Then proceed as proposed above. You will get an ample choice of search engine providers, including Google.
Afterwards, you can reset Region, Language, and starting page as desired.
This is only one of the annoying quirks of Windows 7 and IE9. To restore usability to Windows Explorer and Internet Explorer, I have installed Classic Shell (http://classicshell.sourceforge.net/), which I can recommend highly.

You can add it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/searchguide/en-en/default.mspx#
comes up on that page but not from the Add provider page.
Thanks, that link worked for me. MS still evil!
YES! Worked for me too! Thanks
Google is not listed as a search provider on Microsoft’s site. I HAD this working till yesterday, but had to reset IE to defaults and now can;t get it back. I CAN ONLY ASSUME GOOGLE HAS WITHDRAWN ITS SUPPORT FOR THIS AS THE LATEST IN A LONG LINE OF DESPERATE ATTEMPTS TO FORCE USERS TO SWITCH TO CRHOME. PATHETIC!!!!!
I agree with the previous comments, Google does not appear on the Page of Search Engines, only Bing, e-Bay and Grays Online [Auctioneers] How do we enable Google as a Search Engine for IE9 on WIN7? ???
Apparently, because Google has made its own browser “Google Chrome”, Microsoft has retaliated by making it very difficult to choose Google as a search engine. But I experimented and researched and found out how to do it.
First go to this link:
http://www.iegallery.com/en/addons/detail.aspx?id=813
(This was not easy to find, let me tell you.)
Choose “Click to Install”.
In the next window check the box that says “Make this my default search provider” and also the box that says “Use search suggestions from this provider”. And then click Add.
Now restart the Internet Explorer browser.
Go to that stupid gear icon button and select “Manage Add-ons”.
This opens a new window. Select “Search Providers”. Google should be there now.
Highlight Google and right click on “Move Up”.
Google should now be on top of the list (above “Bing” which is Microsoft’s own search engine) and have number 1 as the listing order. If there are any other search engines keep hitting Move Up until Google is on top.
Now, before clicking Close check the boxes that say “Prevent programs from suggesting changes to my default search provider” and the one that says “Search in the address bar”
Now click Close.
OK, now in the address bar up at the top right you can still type a proper website address “www.dictionary.com” or you can use this same bar to search in google by just typing (say) “Gates supports annual baby seal cull”.
One last tweek I would recommend. When you type something liabelous in the address bar stop half way through and notice that you will have an option appear below your typing that says “Turn on suggestions (send keystrokes to Google)”. Click on this and from then on it will let you pick suggestions from a drop down list before you finish typing the whole search phrase, which you already indicated you wanted in a earlier step but IE9 needs further convincing.
Easy as pi.
Sorry the address bar is on the top left not the top right. :-0
Nothing else worked fror me but this did! In fact I didn’t have to go to the Manage Add-ons, once I reopened IE all was fine. Thanks very much.
Thanks for the link, Ive just tried it and worked perfectly.

Talk about making life difficult for your customers, MS…
Thanks to Bill for helping out. Regards from Oslo.
Where is google. on your list
I followed the above link to add google as default search a few weeks ago and all went well, I tried to access it again this week and it now shows the page cannot be found!! What a dirty trick to play on your customers microsoft! Shame on you! Apple here we come!
Microsoft has changed the links.. We have updated the link .. You can visit the updated link..
Yeah though, doesn’t really work. Does it?!
I have tried to add google on a freshly installed Windows 7 Pro PC without any luck.
The page with Google is there, the button does not work…
Tried a few different PC’s and Laptops and none of them worked. I click on the link
“add to Internet Explorer” but nothing happens. I’ve done this many times before on different PC’s but cannot figure out why or when it stopped working. The site gives an error message, that’s it.
Can anyone still add search engines?
It doesn’t WORK! No matter how many times I press add to internet explorer NOTHING HAPPENDS! And I have a fresh WIN7 operating system.
When I right click I see gthis on the adress URL:
javascript:BrowserDetectionAddonInstallSearch(‘/DownloadHandler.ashx?ResourceId=813′,’False’);
Clicking on the “Add To Internet Explorer” button does nothing.
I’ve just bought a new desktop. Google appears in the list of search providers, but there is no response when I click on the ‘Add to Internet Explorer’ button. In fact this button won’t work at all – not even for bing!!!
There can be some problems in your browser. Clear the cache and then try to use the link..
And the http://www.iegallery.com/en/addons/detail.aspx?id=813 link is not working:
An error occurred.
An error occured while that page was being displayed. Someone is looking into this problem. Thanks for your patience. Go Back
The link is working properly .. Check again .. The link is one of the popular links on IE Gallery
The link http://www.iegallery.com/en/addons/detail.aspx?id=813 shows “An error occurred.”
Nice job Bill Gates (above poster – Not the real clown)
I build a lot of PC’s and make this change every day as Google is a great search engine.
If you ever need to re-add Google as your Default Search Provider make sure you save the page from within the web browser ie.
File
Save As
So when Microsoft again catch on (hopefully) we can continue to use the link from a private sourse (your own saved file) rather than an on-line link.
Bill, you saved me some grief.
Cheers

I’m in New Zealand and also had problem of no search options coming up but have a solution! once you have selected the ‘Find more search providers’ link just change the part of the address bar that has ‘en-nz’ (or whatever you country code is) to ‘en-us’ then you have all options availiable. Of course google nz wasn’t there but i’ll live with that
Sorry Admin, David is correct – that link just brings up an error.
I am in the very same position: IE9 using Windows 7 and Bing is locked in. No other search providers show at all on the IE Gallery page, nor even in Add-ons.
If I select Bing, ALL options like remove and delete and unselectable.
I despise BING.
Hi Dec, try my method above – it was the only way i could get it going. Chur, Hamish
http://www.iegallery.com/en-us/Addons/Details/813
this is the link of google search.
these MS morons made it in Tracking list add-ons
so people can use Bing which is not far better than a Ping-pong game.
Mail me if you think this one is ir-relevant or if any problem persists
THANK YOU! I was stuck on Bing with a new computer and it was driving me crazy trying to figure out how to get Google back. (hey, I’m used to Google!) I just followed your instructions and BING, (pun intended) it’s back when I highlight/right click.
