Ian asks: I need to download a CNN video to embed in my PowerPoint presentation. Is there any free CNN Video Downloader that I can use?

News sites like CNN stream FLV videos in a way that it hides the actual URL of the video behind JavaScript. However once you start streaming the video, its file location gets stored in your browsers cache. Now the actual video can be easily downloaded from that address.

Ian, you do not need any CNN video downloader to download CNN videos. Firefox web browser and a simple addon would be more than enough. Here is a step by step guide.

Step 1. Install FlashGot addon in Mozilla Firefox.

Step 2. Restart Mozilla Firefox and browse to you the CNN video that you want to download and click play.

Step 3. Once the video starts playing, Press Ctrl + F7

Or

Click the FlashGot Video Icon in the Status bar at the bottom of your screen to automatically begin the download.

Or

Click Tools > FlashGot > FlashGot Media, to begin the download.

Select the destination folder for your video.

It will automatically download the video to the folder.

The video will be saved to you computer in .flv format which can be played with Media Player Classic or any other Video Players .

So here we are with the Default Linksys Password and username combination for most of the Cisco’s Linksys routers.

Opposite to Netgear, Linksys prefers to keep easy username and password combinations for all of its routers. It can be either one of the following.

However the default username and passwords for different Netgear routers vary a lot and therefore we have compiled a list for your convenience.

Linksys WRT54G Series routers are one of the most popular Wi-Fi capable routers available today. Since these routers do not come with any preset passwords for wireless internet access, it is important that you set up a password.

This will ensure that your bandwidth doesn’t get stolen and you get full internet access speeds.

To change internet access password or to make modifications to your Linksys router you would need to login into Router’s web based set up page.

Here is a step by step guide to access Router’s administrator panel.

1. Start your Computer and Router; see that both are properly connected.

2 . Open a Web Browser (like Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Chrome)

3 .In the address bar, type router’s IP address which is 192.168.1.1 and press enter. This will open up a new window which will prompt for User name and Password.

4 . Leave the Username field blank ( Default username is blank )

5. Default Password for Linksys WRT54G router is “admin”

Note : In a few routers the Username field may also be set to “admin”

Press enter and you would be in the Web Based Interface of Linksys router. Now you can easily set up password for your wireless network.

How to Reset Linkys Router to Default Factory Settings

In case you have changed the default password and have forgotten it, you can easily reset your Router to default factory settings. This can be done by pressing the Reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Once you use reset option all the settings present on your router will be erased and the router’s IP address will also be set to 192.168.1.1. Here is a step by step guide.

1 Note down all the current Router settings.

2. Press the Reset Button of the router for 30 seconds and release. You would notice that the lights have stopped blinking. This is an indication that the router has been reset to factory defaults.

Most of people using BSNL EVDO Data cards complain of poor speeds, greater fluctuations and lack of connectivity.

While BSNL is definitely best in providing the cheapest wireless internet services, same cannot be said about the quality of BSNL. At times you may get speeds of 2 Mbps while at others you may even struggle to get 50 kbps.

The average speeds achieved through EVDO however remain in the region of about 120- 200 kbps with average download speeds ranging from 8- 25 KBps. Let’s try to understand the reason behind it.

What does BSNL Offer?

BSNL now offers two types of EVDO Data Card, both of them at the same prices.

REV 0: With ZTE EVDO Modem AC8700 and peak speeds upto 2.4Mbps.

REV A: With ZTE EVDO Modem AC8710 and peak speeds upto 3.1 Mbps.

But as a customer you must understand, that these are just peak speeds and not the actual speed that you will be able to achieve. There are three factors that go into determining the speed of a Wireless Internet connection

Distance from the nearest BSNL BTS (Base Transceiver Station )

Number of active connections on a Server

Quality of signals from the BTS

Distance from the nearest BSNL BTS

The speed you get depends on the signal strength which relates inversely with the distance between BTS tower and your modem. In simpler terms as the distance between your house and BTS increases, the signal strength decreases and so does the speed that you are going to get with your EVDO connection.

Speeds are expected to be greater for people using EVDO card within range of 1- 2 km from the BTS. Any increase in distance will decrease the internet usage speed. Further it is not advised to go for a wireless internet option where the distance between the server and modem is more than 4 Km.

Number of Active Connections on a Server

More the number of active connections on a server, the lower will be the usage and download speeds. In simpler terms, if the number of people using EVDO connections in your area is more, the download speed will be lower. This is due to the fact that the available bandwidth on a BTS gets shared among the people connected with that BTS.

Since the number of active connections on a server is more in day time, the speeds delivered during the daytime tend to be on the lower side while the download speed in the night tends to be on higher side.

Quality of Signals from BST

You may be using EVDO connection sitting under a BTS but still receiving very low speeds. The reason behind this is the poor quality of signals transmitted by the server. If this seems to be the case , you can either complain to officials about this matter or wait a few days before this automatically gets sorted out.

Our Advice:

Since buying an EVDO card is not a cheap option , we suggest the following to ensure that you derive maximum satisfaction out of your investment.

1. Avoid wireless internet services if distance between nearest BTS and your usage point is more than 4 kms .

2. Get an EVDO card from relatives or friends for a few days and test all possible aspects . You can also ask BSNL for a demo EVDO card.

Wireless broadband is definitely the future of mobile communication in India. Most of the students and young business executives these days prefer to use wireless internet services.

Of the all the wireless internet services currently available in India, BSNL offers the cheapest of them all, but most of the people still have doubt about what it actually is. In the days to come we will try to discuss in detail all you want to know about BSNL EVDO Data Card and what you can expect from it. Here is a brief overview.

What you would Love

Very Low rates

Unlimited Downloads

Better connectivity

Quick Activation

What you would Hate

Poor Customer Service

Variables speeds

Frequent Disconnections

Problems in Windows Vista and Windows 7

What kind of wireless internet services does BSNL Offer?

BSNL offers the following two types of wireless internet services.

CDMA 1x: This service uses CDMA technology for data transfer. CDMA 1x is relatively older to EVDO in terms of speed and performance. It offers speeds up to 144 Kbps and download speeds up to 18KBps. It is available is most of the cities and is currently in the process of being phased out.

The service is available through NIC (Network Interface Card) and EVDO data cards.

EVDO: EVDO stands for Evolution-Data Optimized/ Evolution-Data. It is a new technology and offers speeds up to 2.4 Mbps and download speeds up to 300 KBps. It is available in major cities and BSNL is rolling out EVDO in other cities also. Here is a list of cities where this service is available.

The service is available only through EVDO Data cards.

What exactly is EVDO?

EVDO is a telecommunication standard for wireless transmission of data through radio signals for broadband internet access. It uses multiplexing techniques including CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) as well as TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) to maximize throughput. It is standardized by 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) as part of the CDMA2000 family of standards and has been adopted by many mobile phone service providers around the world.

Is BSNL EVDO Data Card Backward Compatible?

Backward compatibility means that the new device/technology can work with the input generated from an older device or network.

Yes, BSNL EVDO card is backward compatible. In simple terms, in case EVDO service is not available in your city, you can still opt for EVDO card and use it to access internet through CDMA 1x networks. The speed in this case would be that of CDMA 1x network i.e. up to 144Kbps. When the EVDO does become available you can switch over to it.

The reverse however is not true. If you opt for a NIC data card, you cannot access EVDO services on it.

So, you have finally decided to delete Yahoo account permanently and want to know how to do it. The process is pretty easy and would hardly take 2 minutes but you need to know a few things before we move ahead and learn how to delete a Yahoo account.

Things to Know

1. If you delete your Yahoo account, you will lose all data associated with that account. These include:

Yahoo! Mail , Yahoo Messenger , Yahoo! Address Book , Yahoo! HotJobs , GeoCities ,My Yahoo! , Yahoo! Groups , Finance Portfolio and any other area of Yahoo! that can only be accessed with your Yahoo! ID and password

2 . Once you delete your account you cannot reactivate it and you will lose all features you have personalized within your account.

3 . Once you terminate your account with Yahoo, it keeps the email id for another 90 days to avoid fraudulent activity. During this period you will be able to receive emails as normal but you won’t be able to access it.

4 . Once the period of 90 days is over, the id is available for re-registration and other people can practically own your email identity without your knowledge.

BSNL Launched EVDO services back in September 2007 and have been upgrading their networks since then. What is this EVDO ?

EVDO is short form of Evolution Data Optimized. According to Wikipedia:

Evolution-Data Optimized or Evolution-Data only, abbreviated as EV-DO or EVDO and often EV, is a telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals, typically for broadband Internet access. It uses multiplexing techniques including code division multiple access (CDMA) as well as time division multiple access (TDMA) to maximize both individual user’s throughput and the overall system throughput. It is standardized by 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) as part of the CDMA2000 family of standards and has been adopted by many mobile phone service providers around the world – particularly those previously employing CDMA networks. It is also used on the Globalstar satellite phone network.

BSNL offers you two types of services

BSNL NIC Cards (Speeds up to 144Kbps)

BSNL EVDO Cards (Speeds up to 2.4Mbps)

As of date BSNL offers roaming facility also on both type of Cards as well.

Cost of Data Cards

The data card is available on both rent and purchase basis from BSNL. In case you purchase the EVDO card of NIC card , it would cost you Rs 3500 and 2500 respectively, but in case you do not want to purchase it from BSNL then you have option to rent it by giving a refundable security deposit of Rs1000 and monthly rent of Rs 200 for EVDO cards and Rs 150 for NIC cards.

More can be clear from the table below

If you plan to purchase a BSNL EVDO Card or a BSNL NIC card please note the following things.

Speed mentioned is upto 2.4Mbps in EVDO Card , it might not be possible to get full 2.4Mbps all the time.

Speeds of upto 2.4 Mbps is subject to technical feasibility.

Not all cities have EVDO enabled towers.

If you are in an enclosed space then it might not be possible for you to get speeds up to 2.4Mbps.

The distance between BSNL Towers and your residential area is also an important factor in speeds.

One more thing, number of users simultaneously using this device may also limit your speeds.

Finally the cities where EVDO Service is currently active
