BSNL Broadband is one of the ISP Present in India that has PAN India coverage. Due to this BSNL provides its Broadband plans that are affordable for each of the person living in India. The Cheapest broadband Plan from BSNL is the the Home 125 Plan with a limit of 150 Mb per month.

With Speeds of Up to 2Mbps you can consume 900 Mb in one hour if you do not know so these plans are for those people who want to surf internet but do not want to download stuff, and when they do they have to pay the price . For the same, Shafeek Mohammed a freelance programmer from Bangalore made a software to monitor the BSNL broadband usage.

The images are added below for you to have a look.

More details about this program can be got from Shafeek’s website Shaplus.com under Dataone Usage Finder

The software does not consume much space and is small but considering that it would help you in saving your bills , it can be worth a lot of money for you.

So you have finally decided to go WiFi. You must be wondering about which Wireless router to purchase and where to purchase. Let me tell you something about Wireless Routers today. All the Wireless routers appear to be same from outside, having the same antennae , number of LAN ports, and even a USB port, some lights , an on/off switch and a reset button. It’s the hardware from inside that makes the difference , not the outer looks. To purchase a Wireless Router follow the simple checklist and you could be having the best wireless router at your home within no time and surfing internet on it.

Speed Ratings

There are different ratings such as 802.11a(54 Mbps on 5Ghz frequency), 802.11b(11Mbps on 2.4Ghz Frequency), 802.11g(54Mbps on 2.4Ghz Frequency). A new draft on Wireless speeds providing speeds up to 600Mbps is known as 802.11n which works on 5Ghz frequency. Before purchasing a new router you should keep in mind that you will not be getting such a speed from your ISP so, it is not worth to invest in a high speed router because it might cost you some more money.

Models

Each online retailer or a computer showroom have their statistics ready for people to choose from the popular WiFi models. You can choose from any model that is selling like a hot cake. The hot cake materials tend to be of current generation and offer a distinctive advantage over their predecessors. So, you can choose from any existing model.

Warranty

Each WiFi router comes with a warranty. As all the WiFi routers are electronic items and you don’t know when the chip will get fried , so the equipment with maximum warranty is best option. If a manufacturer provides you with long term warranty then it is quite likely that they are more focussed towards their products while a lesser warranty will leave you no choice in case your equipment gets bad. So always prefer WiFi routers with maximum Warranty.

Rumors and Mouth to Mouth Publicity

This is one of the most important fact in purchase of a WiFi router, you tend to follow people who tell you about the particular stuff. In my case some of my friends were against NetGears WGR614 wireless router because they were not able to use it, but in my case it work efficiently and worked very well. I am using it since last two years without any problems. So don’t let anyone’s personal feeling ruin your purchase idea, go and purchase whatever you want.

Same Brand Adapters

Suppose if you have WGR614 from Netgear then you should go with their WG111 Wireless Adapter (both from Netgear) this is because it has been proved from time to time that same brand products have more compatibility then other brands products.

Cost and Budget

The most important factor in choosing new WiFi router is cost and budget, if a Router provides you with extra speed or extra ports then it is going to be costly. Look for a WiFi router which fits in your budget. Spending a considerable amount of money on looks and features is not advisable. Suppose you can purchase WGR614 for $39.99 from Amazon then why spend around $115 for Linksys for approximately same amount of features. Well its up to you to purchase a WiFi router but eventually take this into consideration as well.

BSNL Launched EVDO services back in September 2007 and have been upgrading their networks since then. What is this EVDO ?

EVDO is short form of Evolution Data Optimized. According to Wikipedia:

Evolution-Data Optimized or Evolution-Data only, abbreviated as EV-DO or EVDO and often EV, is a telecommunications standard for the wireless transmission of data through radio signals, typically for broadband Internet access. It uses multiplexing techniques including code division multiple access (CDMA) as well as time division multiple access (TDMA) to maximize both individual user’s throughput and the overall system throughput. It is standardized by 3rd Generation Partnership Project 2 (3GPP2) as part of the CDMA2000 family of standards and has been adopted by many mobile phone service providers around the world – particularly those previously employing CDMA networks. It is also used on the Globalstar satellite phone network.

BSNL offers you two types of services

BSNL NIC Cards (Speeds up to 144Kbps)

BSNL EVDO Cards (Speeds up to 2.4Mbps)

As of date BSNL offers roaming facility also on both type of Cards as well.

Cost of Data Cards

The data card is available on both rent and purchase basis from BSNL. In case you purchase the EVDO card of NIC card , it would cost you Rs 3500 and 2500 respectively, but in case you do not want to purchase it from BSNL then you have option to rent it by giving a refundable security deposit of Rs1000 and monthly rent of Rs 200 for EVDO cards and Rs 150 for NIC cards.

More can be clear from the table below

If you plan to purchase a BSNL EVDO Card or a BSNL NIC card please note the following things.

Speed mentioned is upto 2.4Mbps in EVDO Card , it might not be possible to get full 2.4Mbps all the time.

Speeds of upto 2.4 Mbps is subject to technical feasibility.

Not all cities have EVDO enabled towers.

If you are in an enclosed space then it might not be possible for you to get speeds up to 2.4Mbps.

The distance between BSNL Towers and your residential area is also an important factor in speeds.

One more thing, number of users simultaneously using this device may also limit your speeds.

Step 2 Involves adding the websites that you do not want your kids/ people you love to watch or browse.

You go on to approved sites and add websites that you want to always let people browse and also add sites that you do not want people to browse.
Like I have added two websites

http://www.google.com

http://www.google.co.in

to my never allow list.
The websites in your ignore list or Never List will be given a Red (-)
as you can see in the picture on right side.

The sites in your allowed list will have Green Icon ahead of them

Step 3

Well all necessary steps have been done, the last step is used in case you want to remember your password for Content Advisor, if you want to update your websites list. You can see the image and do the needful.

Go over to General Tab in Content Advisor.

Change the settings if you want to.

You can even change the password.

After doing all these activities, when the person tries to open up the website, a Window will open up requiring a password to open up the website. Thus you can save your children to view illegal websites.

There are other numerous ways to block websites using software’s but that will be dealt in different post.

So you have decided to purchase a new cell phone , it might be a costly one and what about the old used cell phone. It might have served you enough but today if you purchase the new cell phone then what will happen to the old used cell phone. The simplest thing is to recycle cell phone which are not in use.

Even in my case , I was using a Nokia 1100 cell phone and I purchased N73 Music edition (price $300) that time. I did not use the old phone for some time and eventually it was a dead phone lying in my drawer. Then one day I purchased a new connection and I had requirement of a new mobile phone but was short of money so eventually used my old cell phone.

But if today I have a requirement of a new phone then I will do one thing and that is trade in cell phone which will give a fair amount of price of my used cell phone and either I will receive a check for the amount and I can purchase a new one with that amount. This work is being done by FlipSwap Inc which last year alone traded in at least 800000 cell phone which could have resulted in more than 80 tons of solid waste.

What you would have to do is follow simple steps.

Step 1. Register at Flipswap.com

Step 2. Select the model you are using eg. Nokia, Iphone, Razr etc

Step 3. Fill the details about the model.

Step 4. According to details the fair amount would be calculated.

Step5. Take the print of the receipt that you get on your computer.

Step 6. Send the cell phone to FlipSwap.

Remember the shipping is free of cost and , is paid by FlipSwap Inc. You will get the cash or in store credit which is guaranteed by more than 6000 retailers across the US. If you are looking to trade your used cell phone then it is the right time to do it.

GPS is not a new term to all of us, it means Global Positioning System. It uses data from satellite to pin point your location on the ground. I came to know about GPS systems way back in year 2002 when my father was on a tour to some countries and their colleagues from other nations brought devices to check their position and speed they were travelling on.

They showed my father the device and in turn when my dad returned I came to know about this device. Now since then I had curiosity in my mind about how this thing works and how can this help humans. Today I really know how many ways it helps so if you do not know I would like to tell you some of the important works that GPS system does.

GPS Vehicle tracking systems

GPS Fleet Management System

Public Safety

Telco & Cable

Field Services

HVAC, Plumbing & Electrical HVAC, Plumbing & Electrical

In public safety you all know how today’s police and army men require pin pointed location of those entering the boundaries of the country and even some terrorists to attack on them.

With the help of GPS Fleet Tracking Systems fleet management becomes very easy , you would ask how, I can easily say that when you use GPS systems in your automobiles then the device you installed on your dashboard will show you the exact way you have to go on and thus you will not have to roam here and there wasting your own time and fuel. It makes your fleet fuel efficient and even you can pin point them on the long run where ever they are in this world.

This helps you in committing the expected delivery of your products to the consumers who are waiting for the products in the other countries or may be states as well.

Over all, if the technology is used carefully then it becomes beneficial otherwise it can really affect you.
