Ted asks: How do I fix this irritating DNS ERROR? Though I am connected to internet, the error “This page cannot be displayed” with the “Cannot find server or DNS error” at the bottom always shows up?
Ted, the problem you are facing is quite common. Most of us use automatic settings to obtain DNS address and thus end up using the DNS address provided by our Internet Service Provider (ISP). If the ISP’s DNS can’t resolve the IP addresses of the websites you will get the DNS error that you have asked.
What you can do is change the DNS address to any of the following free public DNS Servers. You can see the detailed instructions on how to change DNS Server Addresses here.
Public DNS servers from Google (without any filters):
Public DNS servers from OpenDNS (they may block porn and malware sites):
Public DNS servers form ScrubIt
Public DNS servers from DNS Advantage (they may block malware sites):
You can also use 126.96.36.199 and 188.8.131.52 which are advertised by Comodo
Public DNS servers from DNSResolvers (without any filters):
Other public DNS servers (without any filters):
184.108.40.206 (vnsc-bak.sys.gtei.net) – A Level3 DNS-Server with Anycast (multiple locations) by BBN Technologies
220.127.116.11 (cns1.cw.net) – A Cabe & Wireless DNS-Server with Anycast (multiple locations) by Cable & Wireless Worldwide
