Google has
recently updated its popular chat service G Talk with video and voice chat features. Voice chat was always a part of G Talk but went missing in the Labs edition. It was a anticipated move after Gmail was recently updated with similar features.
Though GTalk has wonderful video quality it is even far from being a contender to the popular service Skype, but may be some time in the near future that we may even say that.
Talking a bit more about the audio and video quality they are just great and arguably so. The reason behind this that all the video and traffic passes through the highly efficient Google servers and we all know that Google has endless bandwidth and server space.
But unlike other services like Yahoo and Skype Google uses a 2 MB plugin that needs to be installed on the computer where you wish to use GTalk. This could be probably an issue with students who often hop around for their internet needs.
