I will answer your query a bit later in the article but first let me bring to you knowledge the process of Hotmail account deletion and what will you lose when you delete your Hotmail account.
The Process
When a user signs up for a new Hotmail account, he is actually signing up for a new Windows Live ID. This enables user to sign into all the Microsoft Services through a common email ID (Username) and password.
However when you close your Hotmail account, your Windows Live ID doesn’t get deleted immediately. It just gets deactivated for a period of 270 days, after which the Live ID is permanently deleted.
So when you delete your Hotmail Account you lose all your email messages, chats but your email id doesn’t get deleted. It hangs in there for another 270 days.
What you actually lose when you delete your Hotmail Account
Apart from what I have mentioned above:
1: You won’t be able to access any Windows Live accounts or Microsoft services that you created with this email id.
2: Windows Live Messenger account will be deleted.
3: All permissions given to associated children accounts will be revoked.
4: Any game profiles (eg: Codemaster’s Dirt 3) created will be lost.
Note: Make sure you take a back up all your important mails before you move ahead with deleting your Hotmail account.
Method 1: Direct Link
Step 1: Visit Close Hotmail Account Confirmation Page
Step 2: Sign in your email ID and password
Step 3: Click on Close Account
Alternate Link: Windows Live ID Close Page
Method 2: Through Hotmail Account.
If both of the above links don’t work, you can try this method.
Step 1: Login into your Hotmail Account.
Step 2: Click on you username on top right hand corner and select Accounts
Step 3: Scroll down and select Close your account.
Step 4: Fill in your password and verify your identity.
Step 5: Follow the steps from First Method.
