Password Protect Bookmarks in Firefox with Link Password

Ranjan asks: I share my computer with my friends and I have bookmarked a few websites that I don’t want them to see. How can I password protect my bookmarks in Firefox?

There may be times when you don’t want to share some of your bookmarks with other people using the same computer. For such times, Firefox provides you with a tiny addon named Link Password, which can help you password  protect your bookmarks in Firefox. Here is how you use it.

Step 1 : Install Link Password from here and restart Firefox.

Step 2 : Click Bookmarks on the Menu Bar to view your current bookmarks and bookmark folders.

Step 3 : Right click on the individual link or bookmark folder and select “Encrypt this link” for an individual link and “Encrypt all  links in the folder” for a bookmark folder.

Step 4 :In the pop-up window enter the password twice to set a password for you links. Do not check “Renamed Link”( Check the Note below first).

Step 5 : Now click OK to finish. You will see the following window indicating that the link has been encrypted.

Now every time someone tries to open the link, Link Password will ask for the password entered at the time of encryption of the link. Once you enter the correct password it will automatically redirect you to the original bookmarked link.

Note: You can also select to rename the links or the folder through Link Password. The problem here is that you cannot use custom names and it will be therefore tricky to find out your own link in the list of links. The renamed link would be something like Cryptlink:45678 :(

I would rather advice you to first edit the bookmark to something you can remember and then encrypt the link.

Hey it’s me that developing this add-ons.
I know that Cryptlink:45678 is not always too good.

But became so when I added this feature after which many people do not always manage to change the name of their links. And as you probably know yourself, so says the title of a page is often very much what kind of page.
Have you perhaps suggestions on how to change the name to go to? And if so, what?
