Set Google as Default Search Engine in Safari 5

Apple announced Safari 5 yesterday with tons of added features. The major changes were the introduction of Safari Reader, improvement of browsing speed, extension support and addition of Bing as the default search provider.

While the first three features were to everyone’s liking, adding Bing as default search engine was clearly not. Bing as a search engine is surely a big improvement over Live.com but is still miles away from Google’s search algorithms.

However, Safari 5 allows you to set Google as default Search Engine. Here is a step by step guide.

Step 1: Load Safari 5

Step 2: Click Edit in the Menu Bar and Select Preferences.

Step 3: In the pop up window, navigate to the General Tab. Click on the drop down against Default Search Engine and Select Google.

Step 4: Close and exit the pop up window. Your default search engine in Safari 5 would be Google from now on.
