Not so long back there was this news about a Facebook virus named “Koobface” that if executed would turn your computer into a zombie and so I thought it is the right time to reflect upon some of the deadliest PC viruses till date.
The point that you need to understand here is that Computer viruses like those mentioned below are still being regularly programmed and sent through attachments or downloads and therefore you should always try to avoid downloading any attachment from any unknown sender or any file from unknown site. But in case you do, immediately contact the computer repair centre and get it fixed.
Here are the 5 worst computer viruses till date.
First computer virus one in our list is Melissa Virus in 1999. It spread through Microsoft Word 97 and Word 2000. Using a mass email process it was able to access and delete critical Windows file. The losses were estimated to be around $ 1 billion.
Second computer virus one in our list is ILOVEYOU virus that appeared in the year 2000. The virus which spread through email used your email contacts to send more messages. The estimated losses were about $ 8.7 billion and roughly ten percent of all the computers that were connected to the internet were affected.
Third computer virus in our list is Code Red Virus that appeared in the year 2001. The virus benefited from the overflow vulnerability in Microsoft IIS servers and replicated itself in other MS computers. The overall losses were estimated to be around $ 2 billion.
Fourth computer virus in our list is MSBlast virus that appeared in the year2003. It affected over 25 million PC’s and losses were estimated to be about $ 10 billion.
Fifth and last in our list is Sobig Virus that appeared in the year 2003. The virus entered the PC in the form of an email attachment which if executed would collect email ids and send messages to all of them. It literally flooded the internet with emails. When it all got over the losses were estimated to be $ 1 billion with more than 500,000 computers affected.
